Instructional painting video: Using a warm underpainting to create realism

In this video, through my painting "Silk," a 36 x 36 in. oil on canvas, I show the process of using a warm base and warm underpainting to create the foundation for cooler colors applied on top.

I explain how this method helps unifying the overall mood of the image using the warm layers underneath the cooler ones, creating temperature vibration in the color scheme that is necessary to obtain realistic lighting.

I talk about the essential steps I took to start the painting, the importance of volume and proper lighting in a scene, as well as color temperature, cloth pattern integration, textures and many other crucial points, in order to achieve the desired level of realism.

This method of painting is one among many others. However, no matter which one you use, the founding artistic principles always remain the same. I hope this video helps you widen your artistic horizon and broaden your range of skills.
